Given the brief to redesign an existing canopy on the Northeastern Boston Campus, our team of three designers took what we know about the campus and applied it to the entry of Ryder Hall. Our design for the Ryder Hall canopy serves to create an entry for the building worthy of the program it represents, while giving the Northeastern community a place of refuge and activity in one of its most busy areas. The canopy incorporates an amphitheater that can be used as a gathering space as well as an assembly. It also serves as a ramp to collect rainwater for irrigation of the surrounding landscape. Under the canopy, users can relax or work on benches and tables, and technology is integrated to inform and instill awareness in the visitors.
